Minutes (Draft) of the March 10, 2008 Joint Regular Meeting
Of the
Arlington Lions Club

Lion Vice President Darwin Mathwig called the meeting to order at 7:25 p.m. at the Arlington Haus with four Arlington Lions, seven SEA Lions, six West Carver Lions, and two guests present.

The secretary’s report of the February regular meeting was not available.

Lion Treasurer Arneson was absent, but a treasurer’s report was approved as read.

1.	Blackie Schwirtz of the V.F.W. and Arden Kreft of the American Legion addressed the joint memberships regarding the Veteran’s Memorial project and an opportunity for the club(s) to participate in said project. Concrete statues painted bronze will be erected to honor the various military branches. Each will cost $3,000. A bronze plaque would note the donation.

A discussion followed noting that the purchase of the army statue would be a fitting memorial of Lion Charter Member Robert Majors, who gave a large bequest to the Arlington Lions Club.

Further, there is the possibility of the SEA Lions making a donation toward the statue, in which case, the donation may be less than $3,000.

The members present voted to make this a formal proposal to be discussed in detail at the April meeting. At the April meeting, motions will be entertained regarding the donation. Due to the amount of the donation, the vote will follow in May. Schwirtz and Kreft agreed to hold that statue for the club should it decide to fund its purchase.

2.	Lion Kathleen Williams spoke on the Campaign Sight First II program. She thanked the clubs for their donations and reported that the goal of 150 million dollars had been reached. She further stated that Lions International has now established a secondary goal of $250 million since time remains on the pledge drive.

3.	Lion Eunice Rucks, zone chair, reported that Lions Club International Fund has recently been rated the top charity in the world. She reported on a successful Midwinter Convention and the goals of District Governor Spille.

4.	The Firehouse Restoration project may no longer need the requested donation from the Lions as their goal may already have been met.

5.	The Fish Fry seems to have gone smoothly with the possible exception of a lack of manpower in the early evening, which can be addressed later. Many compliments were taken regarding the food and service. The Leos were noted for their exceptional contribution to the event. More details will be available later from Lion President Paul who was unable to attend the March meeting.

6.	Lion Hislop noted that a final accounting of the Taco feed needs to be made so the school can get its check toward the sound system.

7.	During the joint meeting, it was determined that the regular meeting of the Arlington Lions Club will be the first Thursday and a board meeting will be the 4th Thursday of each month after the merger is completed.
