Regular Meeting
of the Arlington Lions Club

This was a joint meeting with the Arlington Sibley East Area Lions Club, which held its business meeting first.

Lion President Paul Wiemann called to order the meeting of the Arlington Lions at 7:30 p.m. at the Arlington Haus with six members present and the SEA Lion membership.

Lion Paul presented the treasurer’s report in the absence of Lion Treasurer Pete Arneson. The report was approved as read.

Lion Secretary Dan Hislop read the secretaries report which was approved with a few minor corrections. The approved minutes for December are now available on the club website with the corrections highlighted in red.

Lion Larry Sorenson was named the winner of the puzzle contest, correctly identifying Lion Mike Noack as the subject. He claimed his free drink courtesy of Lion Webmaster Hislop.

Old Business

1.	Lion Darwin Mathwig did not have any new information on the proposed Robert Major memorial project.
2.	Moved by Lion Larry Sorenson and seconded by Lion Pat Liebl to donate $100 to the Girl Scouts MN and WI River Valleys on behalf of the local Girl Scout troop. Unanimously approved.
3.	A possible diabetes campership proposal for Camp Needlepoint was tabled pending information from Lion Hislop regarding the interest of eligible children and their families.
4.	Sight First Chain Link funding was tabled pending further information on the Hot Shot basketball tourney and its proceeds.
5.	Lion Darwin remains the only delegate to the Midwinter Convention.
6.	Lion Hislop reported that the initial donation to the Firehouse Restoration was $250. We will consider an additional donation at the March meeting.
7.	Lion Hislop reported that the calendars arrived late due to members not turning in their orders by the deadline. Even so, they arrive in plenty of time to deliver. Lion Paul Wiemann reported that he has reminded members that there are to be no pickups of calendars. We are to deliver the calendars.
8.	It was determined that the club will reimburse after the fact for high school Leos who attend the midwinter convention with costs prorated among the three clubs.

New Business

1.	Moved by Lion Darwin Mathwig and seconded by Lion Mike Noack to donate $250 to the Lion Debra Wasserman campaign for Lions International Director. Unanimously approved.
2.	The club was informed that Ms. Uecker, a Girl Scout Gold Award candidate from Gaylord will be donating quilts to the Lions Eye Bank at the University of Minnesota for her qualifying project. She is requesting $50 to cover some costs. Moved by Lion Dan Hislop and seconded by Lion Larry Sorenson to donate $50. Unanimously approved.
3.	Lion Paul Wiemann asked the club’s guidance regarding a Fish Fry question. As costs have increased and profits have diminished, some community organizations are no longer shopping only in town for food stuffs and materials. What should we do? It was the consensus of the club that Lion Paul should price materials at various suppliers and then give Jerry’s Home Quality an opportunity to come reasonably close to the best price. Lion Paul was given the discretion to shop as necessary should the local price be too far off, in his opinion, the best price he can get.

Announcements/Thank You’s

•	We will be visiting the Hamburg club on Monday, January 21st at the Hamburg City Hall. 6:30 social/7:00 p.m. dinner meeting. RSVP Lion Wiemann by Jan. 10th

Joint Meeting Decisions

1.	The joint board of directors proposed that the new club meeting date as of July 1, 2008, should be the second Thursday of each month with a 6:00 p.m. social, 6:30 dinner, and 7:00 p.m. meeting. Regular board meetings would also be scheduled. This new meeting date is not the one currently used by either club and avoids church conflicts on Wednesdays. Moved by Lion Mike Noack and seconded by Lion Darwin Mathwig. Unanimously approved.
2.	The current dues paid by each club were discussed. Both are within $6.00 of each other. The SEA Lions currently assess slightly below actual costs and the Arlington Lions slightly above actual costs. The Arlington Lions assess slightly above costs to cover the occasional member who leaves the club without paying dues which the club must pay on his behalf. Moved by Lion Dan Hislop and seconded by Lion Mike Noack to continue paying the Arlington Lions due structure of $60 per year, but divided into two payments. Unanimously approved.
