Minutes (Draft) of the December 6, 2007 Regular Meeting
Of the
Arlington Lions Club

Lion President Paul Wiemann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Arlington Haus with six Arlington Lions, three guests, and LDG Mary Spille and Lion Jim Spille present.

The secretary’s report of the November 7, 2007 regular meeting was approved as read.

Lion Treasurer Arneson was absent, but a treasurer’s report was approved as read.

Lion District Governor Mary Spille spoke to the club about the history of Lions and, specifically, the history of the Arlington Lions and the Arlington Sibley East Lions. While she regrets the loss of the Sibley East Lions as a chartered club, she holds high hopes for the future of the merged clubs. She stated that the two lions clubs are actively working to turn around a low membership situation, which is something that all clubs need to address.

Old Business

1.	Lion Steve Harter provided information that indicates that three of the eight slots have been filled thus far for the basketball tournament. He expects the other slots to fill as we get closer to the tournament date. Lion Darwin Mathwig expressed interest in plans for serving food. His interest will be shared with chairperson Steve Harter. Lion Secretary Hislop will make sure Lion Harter and Mathwig create a plan.

Lion Darwin Mathwig had no additional information on the Robert Major memorial.

2.	Lion Hislop reported that the haystack dinner for December 14 has been changed to a walking taco feed due to school concerns about rice sticking to the gym floor. A group that successfully did a taco feed provided information which was used at a joint planning meeting with the SEA Lions. A plus is that we will not need school kitchen staff to do the feed. MG Waldbaum has also donated the cheese and many of the food items can be returned to Home Quality if unused. Approximately 6-8 Lions will be needed to help. Leos may also assist, so it should be an easy event to run. Requests for help will soon go out.

3.	A merger update was given. One more board meeting is scheduled next week as we prepare for a joint meeting with the SEA Lions to discuss housekeeping issues.

4.	Lion Paul notified the Green Isle Lions of the Lions Track Meet date, which is always the first Friday in May. Other detailed information was provided. There should be no more discussion of inadequate notice by the Green Isle Lions. Hopefully, both clubs will be successful in attracting adequate workers.

5.	Lion Paul reported that there were adequate numbers of Lions present on Tuesday evening. The county staff was desperate for toys right up to the time families arrived. Fortunately, last minute drop offs provided an adequate supply. The Lions service and monetary donation was greatly appreciated.

6.	The Girl Scout donation request was again tabled pending the development of the donation list by Lion Treasurer Arneson.

7.	A previously tabled donation request for the American Diabetes Ass’n Camp Needlepoint was discussed. It was decided that Lion President Paul and the Board of Directors would first review this request and all future donation requests against our donation policy. Donation requests would then come to the club with a recommendation from the board.

Assuming that the club may wish to be involved in this program, the Lion Secretary was instructed to contact the Sibley East Schools, cc SEA Lions, to see if there are any eligible students for Camp Needlepoint and, if so, to determine whether the families have an interest in a campership. If so, the club would then determine whether it has an interest in sponsoring the child, which seems a more likely donation than a general one to the camp.

8.	A discussion took place regarding a second Campaign Sight First II fundraiser, which is to sell chain links for a $1.00 each. The links would be on display at the Midwinter Convention. Moved by Hislop, seconded by Mathwig to take a reasonable amount of the proceeds from our portion of the basketball tournament proceeds to purchase the links as per a suggestion by Lion Richard Thomes. This eliminates the need to sell the links, but will make a reasonable show of club support at the convention. The money all goes to the same cause. Unanimously approved.

9.	Lion Darwin will be attending the Midwinter Convention in Mankato in February. Any other members interested in attending should contact Lion President Paul Wiemann.

10.	Lion Mike Noack noted that the fire hall restoration project is nearing its final stages with the financial goal not being met but within sight of the goal. Approximately $1400 remains. The club tabled the possible donation until March. Lion Treasurer Arneson needs to provide the club with information regarding our previous donation to this project.

11.	Lion Secretary Hislop reported that he had researched our incorporation status and found the appropriate records on the state website. The necessary forms to make the incorporation active rather than the present status of inactive have been downloaded, completed, and mailed to the Minnesota Secretary of State. Confirmation has been received from the state.

New Business

1.	Waffle breakfast is January 13. More information at our January meeting.

2.	A refund of approximately $300 is expected on our calendars due to a submission error of some type. The calendars may be late due to members not submitting order sheets by the deadline. Keep your fingers crossed on this one.

3.	Journey for Service with Lion Jack Webster will be in April as usual.

4.	Lion Hislop was thanked for his work on the club website. It looks very good!

5.	Moved by Thomes, seconded by Noack to pay our share of the Midwinter registration for four senior high Leos at $17 each, which is $23 per club. Unanimously approved.

6.	Starting in January, we will have joint board meetings with the SEA Lions Board.

7.	Of the five Write Off submissions from Sibley East High School students, one has moved on to the zone level. Checks have been sent.

8.	The $75 food license for the Fish Fry trailer has been paid. The K.C’s. also get to use the permit, which is a good will payment to them for use of the trailer.
